The Writer's Workshop Series presents Drop Me Near the Fire: Writing the Micro Essay

The micro essay packs a punch in under 1,000 words, and we'll learn how in this generative class. We'll go over contemporary micros, discuss the form, and generate seeds of future essays through prompts and exercises.


Nicole McCarthy received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Washington, working in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Her work has been published in PANKThe OffingRedivider, a Best American Experimental Writing anthology, and others. Her debut hybrid nonfiction book, A Summoning, was published from Heavy Feather Review in 2022. A lifelong fan of horror movies and books, Nicole has two horror novels complete; one deep in revisions and one currently flirting with literary agents. She lives outside of Tacoma on a woodsy property perfect for horror.

Registration is required.

Recommended $20 donation. Donation is split between the instructor and the organization to compensate for time, space, and facilitation. This fee is optional. Pay what you can, no one will be turned away.
