The Mirror by Janet Hubbard
I look in the mirror,
I see my mom.
Her pale blue eyes stare
Back at me.
I see her lines
Under my own eyes.
I see my own sagging jowls
Mirroring hers.
As I turn in the mirror,
My buttocks jut out
As hers once did.
I feel her love of poetry,
And literature reflected
In my own interests.
I, too, tear up at commercials,
And sappy romances.
I speak out when I see injustice,
And reach out to those in need.
Sorting through my sister’s clothes,
I choose a tan silk blouse
“Oh that looks like…
Something Mom would wear.”
She says.
I mirror my mother
I am my mother!
Her soul lives in me
